Manuel is the
advisor to the Williche Council of Chiefs, the
tribal council on the small island of Chiloe, in
the South of Chile. He is also an anthropologist
and teaches at
ARCIS University in Castro, Chiloe. He is
one of the founders of the Williche Health
Centre (incorporates traditional knowledge to
medical practice)

Honours Student Information Session 4-5 pm
Students considering the Anthropology Program’s
Honours degree can talk to faculty about the requirements for an
Honours thesis and degree. Among other things you will
learn how the thesis program is organized, how to select a
thesis supervisor, how to choose a thesis topic and how the
Honours Program could benefit you. Students from all
levels, but especially those enrolled in their 2nd
and 3rd
years, are strongly encouraged to attend this session.

Whether you are taking just one anthropology
class as an elective, are interested in anthropology for the
future or have already decided to major or honour in
anthropology, you will be warmly welcomed at this social event.
While sipping wine or water and munching on tasty snacks, you
can chat with other students and faculty members as you learn
more about the Anthropology Program.
Informal Forum

The Anthropology Society
presents an informal forum for interested students in
Anthropology. The forum
will include two PhD students talking about their research and
their methods in the field. They will also be providing advice
about the grad school application process, their experiences in
grad school and share any advice they have for students. There
will also be a group of 4th year Archaeology students talking
about their experience in field school this year. Food and
beverages will provided by the society and the faculty will also
be attending.
CHILD SUICIDE, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THE
CONSTRUCTION OF A PARTIAL SOCIAL SCIENCE FOR AND BEYOND LABRADOR
The focus of the paper is on the construction of
an anthropology adequate to engage such issues and new ways of
doing anthropology and history in such circumstances.

Eskasoni, Cape Breton. He will be discussing Mi'kmaq native
traditions and how they can be used to live a more
sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle in today’s
