Strategic Alliances

Just as firms have found that forming strategic alliances with their suppliers and customers helps build competitive advantages, the Gerald Schwartz School of Business and Information Systems has developed a number of such key relationships. One of our longest and strongest partnerships, the SAP Alliance, is described below.

SAP Alliance

Logo - SAPThe School has developed a strategic alliance with SAP, the leading worldwide supplier of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software, to establish a knowledge centre that firmly establishes our place as Canada's leading information systems educator. With a technology investment that exceeds $1 million and an ongoing commitment to enhancing both our student education and our faculty research, SAP has recognized the Gerald Schwartz School of Business and Information Systems as a leader in ERP education. The School has leveraged the SAP alliance with an active research program that ranges from database warehousing & customer relationship management to ERP implementation success and failure.

The use of SAP software throughout the Information Systems degree program has meant that our students are well placed to take up information systems project and management positions in Canada's leading corporations and immediately outperform graduates from Canada's other educational institutions. Active recruiting on campus by some of Canada's best known consulting firms and SAP implementers (e.g. Accenture, IBM, Deloitte, CGI, Sobey's) means our graduates are receiving multiple job offers, are fully placed before graduation and are entertaining salary offers in the $60,000 per year range.

Because of our extensive resident knowledge and expertise, the SAP lab on campus has played host to other higher education institutions in Canada who wish to provide educational opportunities for students in ERP and supply chain management systems.

SYSPRO forms strategic alliance with St. Francis Xavier University

March 1st, 2007 - Burnaby, BC - St. Francis Xavier University's Schwartz School of Business and Information Systems, and SYSPRO, a leading producer of enterprise software for SME manufacturers and distributors, today announced that their two entities have entered into a strategic alliance that will result in SYSPRO's ERP product being introduced into the Schwartz School's educational degree programs in September 2007.

SYSPRO's ERP software will be used extensively within many courses that lead to a Bachelor of Information Systems degree and has the potential to be a significant building block in integrating information system technology within the business curriculum. In addition, SYSPRO software will be employed in a number of faculty and honours students' research projects as they explore the efficiency and effectiveness of competing software technologies in achieving integrated supply chain management solutions.

John Fahey, President of SYSPRO Canada, said "We are delighted to be able to offer our product suite as a teaching tool to such a prestigious institution as the Gerald Schwartz School of Business and Information Systems. The fact that the Schwartz School is the only Canadian business school offering a university degree program in Information Systems is an affirmation of St.FX's vision to be the leading niche oriented undergraduate business school in Canada. Also, the fact that SYSPRO has been selected as a partner to help achieve the development of market-ready graduates able to combine traditional business management skills with more technical IT management skills will be beneficial to St. FX graduates as well as our own SYSPRO customers and solution providers as they seek this balance of highly sought 'hard and soft' skills in the marketplace."
