George Anderson

George Anderson has held many positions. Most recently Mr. Anderson was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Insurance Bureau of Canada (1992-2002) This association represents general insurers in Canada and has been responsible, among many other initiatives, for policies aimed at improving the health and safety of Canadians including a coast-to-coast graduated licensing program for new drivers and a national plan to protect Canadian communities from the effects of natural disasters.

As a senior public servant, Mr. Anderson has on several occasions served as head of Canadian delegation for Canada including Head of Canadian Delegation, Economic Commission for Europe Working Party on Housing, Geneva, 1983; Chairman of the Joint Canada-Japan Housing Committee, Tokyo, 1987; Head of Canadian Delegation to the United Nations Commission on Human Settlements, Nairobi, 1988; and Chairman, Economic Commission for Europe, Research Symposium on Trends in Urban Development, Ottawa, 1989.

Mr. Anderson is Editor of the book, ?Housing a Nation: The Evolution of Canadian Housing Policy", Centre for Human Settlements, University of British Columbia, 1992, and has lectured on housing policy in Canada. These lectures have been published by UBC Press.

Mr. Anderson has served on several public and private Boards and Committees including a role as Chairman of the federal public service United Way Campaign for Ottawa in 1989, Governor of the Canadian Comprehensive Audit Foundation, Chairman of the Toronto Civic Employees Pension Fund (1990-1999), and founding Chair of Best Buddies Canada, an organization devoted to twinning university students with the mentally disabled. He has also served as a Director of the Ottawa Hospital Foundation and The Empire Club of Canada. Currently, Mr. Anderson is a Fellow of the Arthur Kroeger College of Public Affairs at Carleton University. He is lecturer in the school of business administration and co-chair of the St. Francis Xavier University School of Business Administration Distinguished Leaders Speakers Series. He is also a Board member of the Canadian Financial Services Ombudsman Network (CFSON), the General Insurance Ombudservice (GIO) and the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

He currently lectures on leadership principles at St. Francis Xavier University, Carleton University, and in the executive MBA program at St. Mary's University and York University.

DR. TRUDY EAGAN WOMEN IN BUSINESS AWARD

Dr. Trudy Eagan, former Executive Vice-President and Chief Administrative Officer of Sun Media Corporation, a New Brunswick native, is a former ?X? student and honorary degree recipient. In April 2000, she presented the first annual Trudy Eagan Awards at the lecture series which bears her name and honors her generosity to St.F.X.

Each year, Dr. Eagan continues her commitment to the University and its students by encouraging eligible women to compete for this award. Female students from Atlantic Canada, currently enrolled in the third year of a BBA or BIS program, and entering fourth year, may apply. Application forms are available from the department secretaries of Departments of Business Administration and Information Systems. Applicants will also write a 500-word essay outlining the qualities they believe will make them successful in business and provide two letters of reference.

Award winners are announced annually at the Dr. Trudy Eagan Women in Business Speakers' Series.
