- (1996-1997): Participant in a national SSHRC funded research project focused on the lives of beginning teacher educators linked to a parallel project in the United States.
- (1996-1997): Collaboration with colleague in Bangkok, Thailand, using letter writing as a form of collaborative self-study of our practices and how those are shaped by the contexts in which we work.
- (1996-1997): Collaboration with a colleague in Houston with several streams, including: ethical issues in teaching and teacher research (for university teachers as well as teacher-researchers), connections between learning to teach at the preservice and inservice levels, and collaborative self-study of our teaching/research practices.
- (1996-1999): Learning to Teach: Developing Narrative Authority on the Professional Knowledge Landscape. Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada research project. The main objective of this research is to further knowledge of how preservice teachers learn to make explicit/value/transform their narrative authority of good teaching while simultaneously being characters in the good teaching/good student stories constructed for them by university teachers and classroom teachers. This involves two research themes: 1) what relationships do preservice teachers experience between their personal practical knowledge of good teaching and the professional knowledge they are presented within differing contexts on the professional knowledge landscape? and 2) what relationships do preservice teachers experience in different positions on the professional knowledge landscape during their teacher education programs? Anticipated contributions of the project are: 1) clarification of knowledge/practice or theory/practice relationships in teacher education leading to more fruitful connections between individuals’ personal practical knowledge, university curricula, and practica experiences; 2) identification of the kinds of knowledge and relationships which are valued in different positions on the professional knowledge landscape leading to a better appreciation of the varied personal and contextual factors involved in learning to teach; and 3) development of more successful partnerships which acknowledge diverse ways of knowing among individuals involved in teacher education. I presently am/will be interviewing preservice teachers, cooperating teachers, and faculty members to gather diverse persectives on these issues.
