MA program in Celtic Studies
1. Admission requirements for the MA program in Celtic Studies: A BA in
Celtic Studies and three years of Scottish Gaelic (in exceptional cases
these requirements may be waived). On the recommendation of
the department chair, candidates may be required to demonstrate a
reading knowledge of French, German or Russian, and an examination in
the designated language must be passed within six months after
registration.
2. The Celtic Studies MA program specializes in Scottish Gaelic, especially the Gaelic of Nova Scotia.
3. Degree requirements: 30 credits in graduate work, including a thesis.
4. Courses: Celt 500 Advanced Scottish Gaelic (6 cr)
Celt 520 Advanced Seminar in Scottish Gaelic Immigrant Literature (6 cr)
Celt 530 Irish Bardic Poetry (6 cr)
Celt 555 Scottish Traditional Culture (6 cr)
Celt 560 Advanced Writing in Scottish Gaelic
Celt 561 Selected Topics I
Celt 562 Selected Topics II
Celt 590 Thesis
Celt 599 Directed Study
5. Residency requirements: A minimum residence of twelve months
for candidates with an honours degree, and a minimum residence of two
years for other candidates. The degree must normally be completed
within four years of registration and will normally be offered on a
full time basis.
