The Department of History has established an annual prize of $100 which it is seeking to endow. The prize recognizes outstanding achievement in history and is awarded to a full-time senior history student (Major, Advanced Major or Honours) with the highest average in history courses over the final two years of study.
The prize is named in honour of two recent faculty retirees.
Dr. Hogan and Dr. Phillips each taught at St. FX for nearly 40 years. Dr. Hogan has been much beloved as a professor for her enthusiasm and extensive knowledge of medieval history. She received St. FX's Outstanding Teaching Award in 1991. Dr. Phillips has been a very productive scholar throughout his tenure at St. FX, having published multiple and well-regarded books on British history. He received the University Research Award in 2002 and holds the St. FX designation 'Senior Research Professor'.
With a contribution to the Endowment Fund for the Hogan-Phillips History Prize, you can help extend the legacy of these two retired history professors so it makes a lasting impression on new generations of St. FX students. Pledge forms can be printed by following one of these links: 1. For St. FX faculty; 2. For other friends and supporters.
