The Problem of Motion:
Mediaeval and Modern

Stephen Baldner

Professor Baldner will explain the Thomistic definition and understanding of motion; show how Thomas avoids the reduction of motion to mere form (as Ockham does) and the reduction of motion to a mathematical consideration (as Galileo, at times, does); argue that Thomistic natural philosophy is different from but compatible with modern, mathmatical physics.

Friday, January 20th, 2:30 pm, Room 219
