Fr Howard J. Shea was born January 30th, 1924. He was the son of the late Wilfred J. and Margaret (nee Gaudet) Shea.
Father Howard received his early education in
Miminegash and then at St. Dunstan's University in Charlottetown. In
1946 he entered the Scarbrough Foreign Missions in Toronto and was
ordained into the Priesthood in 1951. He stayed with the Scarbrough
Fathers having served two terms as Rector. From 1965 to 1989 he taught
Philosophy at St. Francis Xavier.
After retiring he returned to his summer home
in Cascumpec and spent his winters in Sun City, Florida. He was an avid
bridge player and was very involved in teaching retreats. He also
filled in for many Priests around the many Island parishes lending a
hand wherever he was needed. In April 2005, he took up residence at the
Tignish Seniors Home in Tignish where he resided until his passing at
the Western Hospital, Alberton, on Monday, Nov. 14th, 2005. He was in
his 82nd year.
He is interred in the family plot in St. Simon and St. Judes Cemetery.
