His 40-plus years of research have included the development of the first valid and reliable measure of psychopathy -  the Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R). The Society for the Scientific Study of Psychopathy named their lifetime achievement award after Dr. Hare and, in 2005, he was the first recipient of the R.D. His bestselling book, Without Conscience: The Disturbing World of Psychopaths Among Us, has raised awareness of psychopathy in the general public across the world (it has been translated into 14 languages).
