| Dr. Tara Callaghan is associated with infant and child study at STFX. Her research focuses on the development of graphic symbolism. There are two programs in this research. One investigates the symbolic function of children's drawings and is aimed at connecting the development of graphic symbols to the development of other symbol systems between the ages of 2-4 years. The other examines how children use drawings to communicate about, or understand, their emotional world. This program of research is primarily focused on the artistic nature of drawing development. In all of this research children's comprehension as well as production of graphic symbols is studied. Her teaching interests include Developmental Psychology and Advanced Topics in Developmental Psychology (including Communication in Infancy, Theory of Mind, Drawing Development, Symbolic Development). She is also the founder of the Center for Research on Culture and Human Development (CRCHD). |
