Our History

The Department of Adult Education was established in 1970. Historically, the Department emerged out of a long standing focus on adult education and community development at StFX that grew out of the StFX Extension Department and The Antigonish Movement, a program of community self-reliance and development through adult education. Today this work of development for the people, by the people continues through Coady Institute in Nova Scotia, Canada, and around the world.

St. Francis Xavier University is in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People.
