Snow Removal
GENERAL INFORMATION
PROCEDURES FOR 5-10cm SNOW
PROCEDURES FOR HEAVY SNOW
General Information:
Facilities Management is responsible for managing the contract for
snow removal and salting/sanding of all roadways on campus
Ø

Ø
All hard
surfaces will be cleaned of snow in such a manner as to allow safe,
orderly movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. This shall
include plowing of all drifting snow due to high winds in accordance
with the priority list
Ø
Salting
shall begin after plowing or when hazardous conditions exist
Ø
During
winter months two shifts are provided to cover snow removal
requirements. Early shift from
6:00am to 2:30pm and evening shift from
2:00pm to 10:00pm.
Manpower and schedules will be adjusted to address heavy snowfall
conditions.
Ø
All
pertinent snow removal equipment, salt and sand ready for service by
the end of November of each year or earlier if weather dictates.
Procedures for 5 to 10cm
Snow:
·
Snow
removal crew to start shift at 6:00am.
Ø
Fire
lanes, fire hydrants, fire exits and sprinkler connections to be
cleared
Ø
Handicap
routes to be cleared
Ø
Building
entrances shoveled and ice-melt applied as necessary from 6:00am to
8:00am
Ø
Parking
lots before 8:00am
Ø
Roads
and walkways
Ø
Salting
all areas as needed
Ø
Sand
mixed with salt as needed.

Roads
and Parking Lots:
Ø
By
6:00am – Oland Centre Boulevard and KMC parking lot is accessible.
Ø
7:00am –
Morrison Hall road and MacKinnon parking lot is accessible
Ø
8:00am –
Bloomfield and Nicholson parking lots are accessible.

Sidewalks and Door Entrances:
Ø
6:00am –
Oland Center and Keating Millennium Centre
Ø
7:00am –
Morrison Hall and sidewalks in front of MacKinnon and Cameron
Ø
8:00am –
Nicholson Hall
·
Residences Entrances:
Ø
Removal
of snow from the main entrances will be the priority, and the
secondary entrances will be cleared once all residences have the
main entrances cleared.

Stairs
on Campus:
Ø
The set
of stairs between the library and Nicholson which lead to Lane Hall
will be the priority.
Procedures for Heavy Snow:
·
Snow
removal crew to start shift earlier than 6:00am at discretion of the
Supervisor
Ø
Fire
lanes, fire hydrants, fire exits, and sprinkler connections to be
cleared.
Ø
Handicap
routes must be cleared
Ø
Building
entrances shoveled and ice-melt applied as necessary from 6:00am to
9:00am
Ø
Keating
Millennium Centre,
Bloomfield,
Nicholson and MacKinnon Hall parking lots by
8:00am
Ø
Main
walkways cleared to accommodate main routes by 8:00am
Ø
Remainder of parking lots, roadways, and walkways cleared after
8:00am
Ø
Salting
all areas as needed
Ø
Ice-melt
and or sand mixed with salt as needed when very cold and icy.
