GENERAL INFORMATION
GARBAGE REMOVAL
RECYCLING PROGRAMS

General Information:

Programs are currently being implemented to ensure that there are recycling and compost sites available on the majority of campus.  Click on links to GARBAGE REMOVAL or RECYCLING PROGRAMS for more information.

New signage has been placed throughout campus to assist with sorting of garbage and recyclables.

 

Garbage Removal:

1.  WHEN IS GARBAGE COLLECTED?

In dorm style residences and Governors Hall, garbage is collected 7 days a week from sorting stations and bathrooms.

Students in Powers & Somers Hall and West Street apartments are responsible for removing their own garbage.

 

2.  WHERE DO WE PUT OUR GARBAGE FOR PICK-UP?

In dorm style residences there are sorting stations setup on each floor.  Students are to take their waste and place in appropriate container.  The cleaners will remove it daily.

Powers & Somers Hall residences are to take their sorted waste to the waste bins located in the parking lot on he East side of the building.

West Street Apartments residences are to take their sorted waste to the waste bins located in the parking lot in front of the building.

Governors Hall residences are to take their sorted waste to the garbage room in the basement, sorting stations in kitchen/laundry room, or outdoor waste bin located on the south side of the building.

 

3.  ARE GARBAGE BAGS PROVIDED?

Clear garbage bags are available for students and can be found in the laundry rooms. 

 

4.  HOW DO WE DISPOSE OF LARGE ITEMS?

Call FM Service Desk at ext. 2149 or email fm@stfx.ca and arrangements will be made to pick up the item.

 

5.  WHO DO WE CONTACT IF GARBAGE IS NOT PICKED UP?

Recycling Programs:

1.  HOW SHOULD WE SORT RECYCLABLES?

Waste is sorted in the following streams (some examples include but not limited to):

Paper: Newspaper, loose leaf, boxes, paper towel roll, envelopes, food boxes

Plastics/Glass/Recyclables: Juice/pop bottles, yogurt containers, plastic bags

Garbage:  Coffee cups, pens, Styrofoam containers, bottle lids

Compost: Food scraps, napkins, pizza boxes

Governors Hall currently have compost bins located under the kitchen sink.

 

2.  WHERE DO WE PUT OUR RECYCLABLES FOR PICK-UP?
