Educational

The Coady offers several educational programs. In addition to our internationally recognized five-month Diploma in Community-Based Development Program, the Institute also offers several specialized one-month Certificate Programs.

Our Programs

As part of our continuous effort to remain an innovative leader in the study and practice of community-based development, we are committed to providing dynamic educational programs. While remaining deeply rooted in the Antigonish Movement's community-based approach to development, our programs have both expanded in scope and focused in areas of particular relevance to today's development professionals.

The programs illustrate highly successful development practice that is based on practical responses to local opportunities and problems. They emphasize the need for a responsible social vision, just, equitable and effective institutions to achieve that vision, and the active participation of disadvantaged people in their own development.

Conducted by Coady staff, our educational programs are highly participatory, providing candidates with an opportunity to share ideas and to exchange experiences with each other and with Coady staff. A wide variety of presentation, case study, and experiential and participatory educational methods are used.

In November of 2002, the Centre for Community-Based Management, a joint initiative of the Coady International Institute and the Extension Department at St. Francis Xavier University, will host the second annual Learning and Innovations Institute.

This initiative will bring together Community-Based Resource Management practitioners from around the globe to Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada. The four-day event is designed to draw out the latest knowledge in the field of CBRM based on the experiences and analysis of a group of development practitioners. The 2002 Institute is entitled Enhancing Natural Resources and Livelihoods Globally through Community-Based Resource Management.
