Certificate in Adult Education and Community-Based Development

Not Offered 2003.

Drawing on the approach and principles of the Antigonish Movement - a people's movement for economic and social justice which began in Nova Scotia during the 1920s - this Certificate Program will demonstrate how emancipatory adult education can facilitate the full participation of people in their own development.

This three-week program uses a unique workshop format to introduce participants to the Coady International Institute's community-based approach to adult education for social change. The goal of this approach is to improve the capacity of people to work together, in small groups and in organizations, to renew and strengthen their communities as the base from which they link to transform the larger world.

Enrollment in this certificate is limited as it also serves as the introductory module for the Coady's Diploma in Community-Based Development.
