Board Composition and Procedures

  1. The Centre for Regional Studies (CRS) will consist of nine (9) Board Members. The CRS Board shall include:
    1. One (1) Chair, who shall be a member of the Faculty of Arts, to oversee research related matters and the day-today operation of the CRS. This position will also involve preparation of the research grant to SSHRC (every three years). If deemed necessary, a co-chair arrangement is acceptable.
    2. Five (5) additional Arts Faculty members and two (2) Extension Department members.
    3. The University Research Officer
    4. All terms on the CRS Board are for a period of three (3) years.
    5. New members of the Board shall be nominated by the existing Board and appointed by the President.
  2. Research applications to the CRS will be considered in the fall and spring of each academic year. There must be a quorum of at least five (5) CRS Board members to consider all research applications. Two of the quorum of five must be ineligible for research funding. If all research funds are exhausted in the spring competition, there will be no fall competition.
  3. In the spring and fall call for research proposals, the following information will be made available to all members of the Faculty of Arts.
    1. A copy of the application form which will include the mandate of the CRS, the types of projects which can be funded and the criteria which are to be used in the evaluation process.
    2. Candidates will be informed in advance that all CRS decisions concerning applications for funding will be final. This is in line with SSHRC and UCR policy.
  4. In the letter informing the applicants of CRS decisions concerning their applications, the criteria used in the decision-making process will be clearly stated. This will be based upon the criteria referred to in item 3.1 of this set of procedures.
  5. Applicants for research funding will be informed in the event of an award, that no future applications to the CRS will be considered unless applicants submit an annual report. Research funds awarded in the fall of each academic year must be reported in the fall of the subsequent academic year. The same procedure applies to applicants successful in spring applications. In any event, all successful applicants must submit an annual report to the CRS Board. Once again, this is in line with UCR policy.
