Time to tax your brain. Let’s see how you can handle a physics equation. How much energy is expended when a presenter’s love of the arts collides with his endless enthusiasm? The answer is easily calculated by this winner. StFX physics professor Michael Steinitz has been presenting artists for many years, purely for a selfish reason - …he loves it.
Now he is the recipient of the 2007 Contact East Performing Arts Touring Award of Excellence. Contact East is the trade show of the performing arts in Atlantic Canada.

StFX’s Allan Quigley honoured with alumni of distinction award

Dr. Allan Quigley’s contributions to the field of adult education and literacy have earned him another honour.

The StFX Adult Education professor, who’s distinguished himself nationally and internationally over the past 40 years, is the inaugural recipient of the Campion College Alumni Distinction Award for Professional Achievement. He received the award Oct. 27 in Regina as part of the college’s 90th anniversary celebrations.

Dr. Quigley obtained his BA in English and philosophy through Campion College in 1967. After teaching English in India, he returned to the University of Regina where he obtained a Master of Arts degree in English and, later, a doctorate in Adult and Continuing Education from the Northern Illinois University.

StFX Announces Dr. Ed O’Connor Scholarship Recipients

Seven students from St. Francis Xavier University have been awarded a total of $30,000 through the 2007 Dr. Ed O’Connor Scholarship.

A renewable award open to students from the province of Alberta, Ed O’Connor Scholarship recipients include first-year students Genevieve Taylor of Priddis ($5,000), Julianna Salm of Strathmore ($5,000) and Madison Ficaccio of Calgary ($5,000); second-year students Kelsey Lynch of Calgary and Bethany Loewen of Carstairs ($5,000 each, renewed), third-year student Jennifer Jackson of Olds ($2,500 renewed) and fourth-year student Bonnie Murphy of Lacombe ($2,500 renewed). StFX Students Making the Connection: Annual Business Dinner a Sell-Out Success

More than 50 company recruiters from across the country visited the StFX campus Wednesday night to meet with soon-to-be graduates at the StFX Enterprise Development Centre’s 4th Annual Making the Connection Business Dinner at the Keating Millennium Centre.

The sold-out dinner gave employers a chance to chat with third and fourth-year students about upcoming job opportunities, and how to find employment through effective networking. Continue reading

Scotiabank Makes Major Investment in StFX’s Schwartz School

The Gerald Schwartz School of Business and Information Systems got a funding boost today, as Scotiabank made a $500,000 donation toward a major capital project that will one day create a new home for the school.

Dr. Sean Riley made the announcement this afternoon, accepting the cheque from John Oliver, Senior Vice-President of Scotiabank.

“Scotiabank’s gift is a tremendous endorsement, and we are delighted that the bank joins other business leaders such as Gerry Schwartz in acknowledging the high calibre of this national School of Business,” Dr. Riley said. Continue reading
