Meet the Writing Centre Staff

Nancy Marenick, Coordinator

Nancy oversees the Writing Centre, including the eXcel, APEX, and LEAP programs. She brings a wealth of knowledge from her experiences working with learners of all ages and nationalities. She sees the Writing Centre as the perfect venue for helping students build on their strategies for success.

Crystal Bailey Gavard

Julie Stewart

Julie holds a B.A. in English from StFX and an M.A.in English from McMaster University. As someone who took advantage of the Writing Centre's services during her undergraduate studies, she sees the Writing Centre as a great oppoortunity for students to develop effective writing strategies.
Julie meets individually with students who book Writing Centre appointments.

Karen Fish

Before coming to the Writing Centre, Karen worked as a journalist, writer, editor, and adult education consultant.  In her writing career she has specialized in the areas of health, medicine, and the social impacts of science and technology; in her leisure time she is exploring the personal essay form. She has a Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton University and an MA in Educational Technology from Concordia University.  Karen teaches APEX and meets individually with students.

Sherry Neville-MacLean

Sherry holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the former University College of Cape Breton, a Bachelor of Education degree from St. Francis Xavier University, and completed a French Immersion program at Université Ste-Anne.This past summer, she was one of the instructors of the Learning English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) program.

Sherry teaches the science eXcel classes and meets individually with students from her classes and other StFX students who book Writing Centre appointments.

Lise deVilliers - leave of absence 2009-2010

Lise comes to the Writing Centre with years of experience as a teacher, counsellor, and literacy coordinator. She has earned a B.A. (Trent), B. Ed (Dalhousie), B.F.A. NSCAD), and M.Ad.Ed (StFX). Her area of concentration for her Master's was writing theory.
Lise teaches APEX and LEAP and meets individually with students from her classes and other StFX students who book Writing Centre appointments.
