Access to StFX computing resources is granted via a system account referred to as a "webFX” account. Each webFX account provides a user with:
- MS Outlook/Exchange account for e-mail/webmail, calendar, contacts, tasks (100MB)
- Personal File Storage H: Drive (1000MB)
- Personal Web Space W: Drive (500MB)
- Access to Departmental Shared Drives
In addition each faculty member is provided with an account
for the Banner student information system
and the web reporting system MesAMIS.
Each faculty member, upon request, is provided with access to a phone number, phone set, and personal voicemail box. Calling cards and conference call services are also available as required.
Each faculty member is provided with the standard webFX office configuration which includes:
- Desktop System
- Monitor
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- Speakers
- HP DeskJet Printer
TSG is pleased to be able to offer full support for MDG PC’s and IBM Lenovo Thinkpads, New for the 2007 Academic Year is the Apple MacBook and iMac installed with the StFX iXone configuration of Windows XP, MacOS X and Opensource Linux all on one system!
St. Francis Xavier University, through the Microsoft Campus
Agreement Subscription, has license coverage for all faculty to use MS
Office Professional Suite as well as Microsoft Viso, Microsoft Project,
Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Frontpage (Now Sharepoint Designer).
Faculty of the university have also been extended the right to use this
software for campus-related purposes at home through the Microsoft Work
@ Home Use Rights covered by the agreement.

The webFX network is a 1GB/s
Local Area Network with 100MB/s desktop connections. The campus network
is connected to the Internet at 45MB/s and has a 1 GB/s connection to
CA*Net4.
The network is protected by Security and SPAM firewalls and
all computer systems are equipped with virus and spy ware protection
software.
Authenticated wireless network and Internet access is available throughout the campus and Virtual Private Network (VPN) access is available for off campus users.
As part of the webFX standard office
technology, faculty members are provided with an Hewlett Packard (HP)
Deskjet Printer. Faculty members may also wish to print to the numerous
network printers on campus and all charges will be billed to the user
or Department.
Large-scale printing services are available through the Digital Print Shop located in the Campus Store, Bloomfield Centre.
Classroom instructional technology is available for use by all faculty. Most campus classrooms are equipped with the following instructional technology:
- PC with a DVD Drive/Player
- Digital Projector
- Visual “Overhead” Presenter
- VCR.

There are 14 webFX General Access Labs
on campus for student & faculty use. These labs provide
students & faculty with access to computing, printing (black
and white, color), and scanning resources.
During the academic year faculty can reserve a computer lab through the Registrar’s Office. Summer (May through August) reservations must be made through Conference Services.
Media Services provides assistance with classroom
instructional technology support and special event media
production support
All requests for support or inquiries must be done through the TSG Contact Centre.
Training is available for all faculty in the use of the
classroom instructional technology, supported desktop environments
(Windows XP, MacOS X and Open Source Linux) and the Microsoft Office
Suite of office productivity applications.

Upgrades and Equipment Sales:
The TSG Contact Centre maintains a small inventory of cables,
hubs, monitors and computer components for supported campus technology.
These items can be purchased to upgrade a compatible desktop system
from the Contact Centre.

Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) Test Correction Service is available for all faculty. Marking can only be done on the standard cards available from TSG. Departments are charged for the cost of cards and for the actual marking process.
Technology Consulting for Procurement
& Projects
TSG staff are available to support project planning or technology
procurement.
