The StFX Faculty of Education prides itself in producing outstanding educators who appreciate the balance between theory and application. Practicum is twenty-two weeks duration over two years; eleven weeks each year. Each year students complete five weeks in the fall placement in November and December; and six weeks in the spring session in March and April. Students are placed in schools throughout the province of Nova Scotia. Students may return to their home community in Nova Scotia to complete their practicum or they may practice teach in schools within the StFX catchment area (within one hour from StFX). Transportation will be arranged. Students also have the opportunity in their second year to do an alternate or international placement. Alternate placement affords students the ability to work in an education setting but not necessarily a traditional school environment. International placement allows students as a group to go abroad and complete their last practicum with a group of other BEd students.
