Catholic Studies, like all humanities programs, offers an understanding of humanity – our history, cultures, and values. What makes our program unique is that we acknowledge the 2000-year symbiotic relationship of Catholicism, and Christianity generally, to the history of the West, both formally (in the Catholic Church) and informally (at personal levels). Our program offers a multi-disciplinary exploration of the diverse ways in which the Catholic traditions inform culture, institutions, and identity, from the earliest days to our contemporary world. Our interdisciplinary courses in history, artistic culture, theology, literature, and philosophy seek to understand and explore critically the institutions associated with Roman Catholicism.
