With increasing public interest in nutrition, the field of nutrition and dietetic practice is expanding with new career opportunities emerging. Human Nutrition students at StFX graduate with a strong scientific background in foods and nutrition, combined with social science perspectives, communication skills and understandings of ways to effect individual and social change.

Career Options
The Human Nutrition program is nationally accredited by the Partnership for Dietetic Education & Practice (PDEP). Depending upon the choice of courses, the BSc in Human Nutrition prepares graduates for careers in areas such as dietetics (including community nutrition, food service, sports nutrition and clinical), education, health promotion, food service management, food science and industry positions, as well as entrepreneurship. Graduates may also pursue advanced study in human nutrition, food science, health promotion, adult education, business administration, health administration, epidemiology, medicine and other health science professions.

Students interested in pursuing a career in dietetics may apply to the StFX Integrated Dietetic Internship (IDI) Program, a nationally accredited program that has been designed to prepare students to achieve the Integrated Competencies for Dietetic Education and Practice, required for entry to practice. Graduates may also qualify for entrance to a Dietitians of Canada approved graduate dietetic internship program

Degree Choices
The Human Nutrition program offers honours and advanced major programs for students wishing to develop their research skills by exploring a topic of current relevance. The Cooperative Education Program or Co-op Program offers the opportunity for students at StFX to gain real work experience in various fields. The Human Nutrition program is accredited by the Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP) and leads to a range of career options in dietetics. With the appropriate course selection, nutrition students may apply for a 5th year in Human Kinetics and graduate with 2 degrees in 5 years. Or select the appropriate teachable subject elects and prepare to enter a Bachelor of Education program specializing in Secondary (Family Studies) or Elementary school.

Human Nutrition graduates are well equipped to integrate, translate, and apply theory into practice to assist individuals, groups, and the population-at-large to achieve their food, nutrition, and health-related goals. Theory–based courses are supported by application and opportunities for experiential learning, such as lab and community-based assignments and Service Learning.
