What is Document Delivery and Document Delivery Distance Services?
Document Delivery is responsible for obtaining materials which are unavailable at StFX either in print or online. StFX students, staff and faculty can borrow physical material and obtain copies of articles or chapters from works that are not held by the StFX Library. We will do our best to fill all requests.
Document Delivery Distance Services
Document Delivery is also responsible for delivering print materials from the StFX collection to distance students, staff and faculty. Your local library (whether a university, college, hospital or public library) should be your first resource for locating research material.
Most local libraries will lend books and allow you to photocopy materials. Some libraries will facilitate borrowing materials from other libraries through Document Delivery. A charge may apply to some or all of these services.
Who can use Document Delivery Distance Services?
Distance Services are available to anyone registered in or teaching a distance class.
What is a CAAL card?
A CAAL Card grants you in-person borrowing privileges at most universities in Canada, outside of Nova Scotia and must be requested from your home library. If you did not sign up for a CAAL card when you registered or updated your library account online, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to obtain one as quickly as possible. A CAAL card will only be granted to patrons with accounts in good standing.
To borrow material in-person from any academic library in Nova Scotia or at Mount Alison University, you may present your StFX ID card (CAAL card not required) at their Access Services desk.

How do I check my Library account?
For both your Novanet and Document Delivery (Relais) accounts, log in using your StFX ID barcode (2199300…) and password (usually the last 4 digits of your phone number).

To renew books borrowed on Novanet, or to check the status of holds, and fines, log in to your library account and choose the "My Library Account" tab.

To request a renewal of a book borrowed from outside of Novanet, or to check the status of a request or to cancel a request, log in to the document delivery system and choose "Open Request" from the menu on the left of the screen
Are there any fees or limits to Document Delivery Distance Services?
The library assumes the costs for mailing items to patrons within Canada. Patrons assume the responsibility for paying to have these materials returned to StFX. Limits on items requested may be enforced.
How far will Document Delivery Distance Services mail print materials?
Document Delivery will supply items anywhere within Canada.
We encourage anyone living in Nova Scotia, within easy access of a Novanet Library, to order material available within Novanet via Novanet Express.
