María Soledad Paz-Mackay obtained her Ph.D. in Spanish (Contemporary Latin American Literature) from the University of Ottawa where she also completed her MA. Her doctoral dissertation analyses the fictional representation of History and Collective Memory in four Argentinean novels, published between 1995 and 2002, which reflects on topics related to the last dictatorship.

Research interests

Dr. Paz-Mackay’s research focusses in XX and XXI Century Latin-American and Argentinean Literature.  Her scholarly interests cover a broad range of topics including Human Rights and Literature, Memory and Identity, Cultural Production of the Children of the Disappeared, and Social discourse and Literature.

In recent years Dr. Paz-Mackay has conducted research on films and documentaries from the Southern Cone region.

She is part of a research team with Dr. Diana Pifano (Dalhousie University), which received a Insight Development Grant awarded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Counsil on the project titled “Memory, Identity and Humor: The Voice of the Children of the Disappeared in XXI Century Argentinean Fiction.”
